Effective August 29, 2026
SmartCited aims to be usable by everyone, including people who navigate by keyboard or with assistive technology such as a screen reader. This statement describes where we stand today — it's a working document, not a compliance certificate.
Conformance target
We target WCAG 2.1 Level AA as our internal bar. This is a self-assessment based on our own review of the codebase, not an audit by an outside accessibility firm, and we haven't tested every success criterion against every page.
What's in place
- Keyboard navigation throughout, with a visible focus outline on every interactive element and a "skip to main content" link at the top of each page.
- Text and background color pairs checked to meet the 4.5:1 contrast ratio WCAG AA requires for body text.
- Real form labels (visible, or a screen-reader label attribute) on inputs, not placeholder text alone; native checkboxes and buttons instead of custom look-alikes, so screen readers and browser autofill both work as expected.
- Semantic headings and page landmarks (navigation, header, footer) so assistive technology can jump between sections of a page.
- A responsive layout that supports browser zoom and OS-level text scaling without breaking.
Known limitations
SmartCited is an early-stage product and this pass focused on the core scan, dashboard, and publishing flows. Some areas we haven't fully audited yet: complex data visualizations (trend charts, source-ranking tables) may not have a complete non-visual equivalent, and pages embedded from third parties (Stripe checkout, OAuth sign-in screens) follow those providers' own accessibility standards, not ours.
Feedback
If you hit a barrier using SmartCited with assistive technology, tell us: contact@smartcited.com. Include the page and what happened, and we'll look into it — we treat these reports the same as any other bug.
